IIM Lucknow’s Prof. Bharat Bhasker awarded the "Best Professor in Information Technology 2008" at Dewang Mehta Business School Awards
Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Professor of Information Technology and Systems, IIM Lucknow, was conferred the "Best Professor of Information Technology" at the recently concluded AsianBrand Summit and Dewang Mehta Business School Awards.
The Awards were supported by Ms. Sheila Mehta, Director, Onward Foundation for Dewang Mehta Awards. The Chairman of the jury was Dr. Prasad Medury, Partner, Amrop International.
Prof. Bhasker is a Senior Professor at IIM Lucknow in the area of Information Technology and Systems. In addition, as a principal investigator, he is responsible for setting up Internet Commerce Research Center in IIM Lucknow, to conduct research and development in the focus area of Internet Commerce with the objective of growth of Internet Commerce in India. He received and managed a grant for implementing the IIMNet (an Intranet of four Indian Institute of Management in India) worth Rs.1,000,000 from Digital Equipment Corporation (India) Ltd.
Prof. Bhasker is responsible for all the Consulting, Executive /Management Development Programs, Library, Computer Centre, planning, budget and new developmental activities of the institute including the setting up of a new campus of the institute at NOIDA.
Prof. Bhasker has worked across the globe in various capacities. He has worked at NASA for seven years as Group Manager, Hughes STX Inc, 4400 Forbes Blvd., Lanham, MD 20706 at Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA; He has worked in the corporate sector in the US having been a Consultant at Connectix Corp., San Mateo, California; Project Director at SYBASE INC, Emeryville, CA ; Principal Scientist at MDL Information Systems Inc., San Leandro, CA and as a Systems Analyst, Computer and Information Systems, Tata Steel Ltd., India.
Prof. Bhasker has rich and diverse experience in academia and has been a Visiting Professor at ESSEC Business School , Paris, France and University of Texas, Dallas, USA. He was a Distinguished Professor at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea, was a Research Professor at University of California, Riverside, USA and Adjunct Faculty at Information Systems, Univ. of Maryland, College Park.
Prof. Bharat Bhasker has been conferred many awards and has held a number of important positions, in his illustrious career spanning over two decades. He was awarded for Best Research Paper at McMaster World Congress 2004, Hamilton, Canada, Scroll of Honour (2001), for exemplary services in the field of Information Technology, by Rotary Club of India (Lucknow), Research Productivity Award (for 1994) National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), USA; He has been an international expert for Research Grants and Scholarships Directorate of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), a member of State Task Force of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) on India @75 of Uttarakhand, Technical Advisory Board to Controller of Certifying Authorities, Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India and was a member of All India Management Association and PNB Institute of Information Technology, India.
Prof. Bhasker has rendered professional consulting services in the area of Information systems planning, network design, electronic commerce to Ernst and Young, BHEL, NABARD, HPCL, Government of UP. He has conducted Management Development Program, "Electronic Commerce- Enabling Technologies" attended by Information Technology business leaders. He has also done a workshop on Internet Commerce strategies for Ernst & Young India Ltd., at Delhi.
Prof. Bhasker holds a Ph.D in Computer Science, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Dissertation: "Query Processing in Heterogeneous Distributed Database Management Systems". He has published over 80 research papers in International Journals and Conferences and is the author of three books in Electronic Commerce: Framework, Technologies & Applications.
